This is my new and first ever blog, Will in Taiwan. This is so you can all see what it is like living in Taiwan. Also, you will probably get a kick out of hearing crazy stories and how disoriented I am. Asia is a whole new world and I feel like a helpless child.
So, I will begin by giving you all a 360 view of my apartment.
My apartment
Here is a view of the building in front of my building.
A view of the alleyway below. The streets here are so narrow and there are so many motorcycles!
A small glimpse of the front door and patio The front door is just a screen door so we use a key to lock our bedroom door. Also, to get into the building and your floor you need different keys.
This is the hallway taken form the bathroom door. You can see the two bedroom doors and then the front door screen covered by the curtains. So, as you can see the apartment is relatively small.
Here is the back half of my bedroom. It has an AC which is nice because it is pretty hot here.
This is the front half of my bedroom. There is no closet so hangup clothes go on the wall and there are these wooden shelves for other stuff.
The front half of the bathroom. A western style toilet thank goodness. Didn't want to have to crouch and aim. Also, toilet paper here look like Kleenexes. The come in the little pouch and have a similar/ feel/look.
The back half of my bathroom. It contains the sink and shower. The shower is small and hand held. There is a door at the back. I was very curious to see where this mysterious little door would lead.
It leads to outside to our water heater that is powered by a little gas tank.
As you can see there is no kitchen or living area. People in Taiwan eat out a lot.
Anyway, I am having a fun time so far. Tonight I went out on the town. My roommate took me out to eat which was delicious but difficult. I struggled using chopsticks but got better towards the end. My roommate thought it was so funny! He took pictures and I am sure sent them to all of his friends I am sure saying something like "silly Americans."
Hopefully he wasn't
too embarrassed. At one point he asked if they had a fork or knife and the waitress said "he can just use the spoon." It was funny because the dish was big chunks of meat, one was even a huge meat bone, with rice and vegetables.. The people there just were using the chopstick to hold it up and eat it right off the bone. My roommate said I could use my hands so I did.
My roommate has been very patient and kind in showing me the ropes. I am adventurous enough now to go shopping on my own and get to and from school. Tonight he also showed me where the temple/church are so I can visit there on my own now too. My next goal is to learn how to use the subway system. Should be fun.
Anyway, thanks for all your support and emails. Love hearing from everyone. Please post any comments or questions that you may have. I will post again soon with more interesting pictures of the city/food.
I am so glad that you made it and are being adventurous. Loved seeing pictures of your apartment.
